    Notes
This is the base for the February edition of the 2013 GtVault Tuner challenges; taking place from 02/02/2013 until 11:59pm 28/02/2013.

The S2K GP pits drivers against the clock in a factory bought 2006 Honda S2000, with all parts and modifications allowed; who can set the fastest time on the Grand Prix course?

Details will appear in posts below.

CHALLENGE RUNS THROUGH ALL OF FEBRUARY; until 11:59PM GtVault time on the 28th.

Following on from the January edition of the tuner challenges, February will again be open to all drivers and tuners of all skill levels. The tuner challenge started as a place to compete for the fastest time, but quickly became a tool of learning, as each tuner tries to find every last tenth.
The challenge is open to new entrants at all times, merely express your interest and post a time by the end of the month and I will do the rest.

First place will win both a level 23 gift car ticket and the rights to host the next month's tuner challenge, with car, track and rules entirely up to you.

100% all gold in GT4, GT5 and GT6. At last.

    The Rules (During the challenge)
Updated 02/03/2013 1:10 AM Post a reply Quote this post View StigsTibecuadorianco's info
    The Basics
    Track: Nurburgring GP/F course
Car: Honda S2000 '06 (from the dealership)

    The Car
    Tyres: Sports Soft
Parts allowed: Anything you can buy you can have
    Parts banned: None
Settings: You may change any setting, and use any driver aid you see fit, except for skid recovery force which is banned.

    The Track
Legal Lap Times: As GT can be very choosy by what it thinks is a "legal" lap time, the requirement for this challenge is that you keep AT LEAST 2 wheels on/over the racing tarmac at all times. The curbs DO NOT COUNT as part of the racing tarmac, so you may not have 4 wheels on the curbs or run off the back of curbs on the exit of corners. Failure to heed this rule will have your lap time disqualified.
(A function of this rule is that your time SHOULD be legal by Gran Turismo's in-game standards)

Where to race: You may race in free run, one make race or in an online lobby if you so choose to, however there may be no wall riding, no shortcuts, no glitches, no bumping or ramming allowed in ANY mode, failure to comply will result in disqualification.

    Time Submission
When to post: You may post a lap time at ANY TIME before February ends as many times as you wish, whereby the time will be taken using the GtVault time code stamp that exists on all posts.

How to win: The fastest time is declared the winner, and you may do as many laps as you wish, use as many S2000's as you wish and use any parts as you wish.

    The Rules (After the challenge)
Posted 02/02/2013 9:18 AM Post a reply Quote this post View StigsTibecuadorianco's info
    What we learn
Once the challenge is completed all entrants must submit their tune to GtVault within 7 days of the completion of the challenge. This makes it possible for others to learn about car setup seen from a different point of view, and to take ideas forward for our own tuning ventures. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

    Lap Time Validation
Additionally after the challenge ends, you must submit a replay to either myself or someone else in the challenge to validate your time. During the challenge you may submit replays to check if a lap is legal if you are unsure.

Submitting a replay can be done in 2 ways:
    1. Sending a copy of your replay taken from GT5
    2. Recording the lap:
..........2.1 With a capture card, or
..........2.2 With a stable camera of sufficient quality.
and uploading it to a video hosting site, and posting the link here where it can be found and looked at.

This is solely to prevent false times being posted, and also checking legality of lap times.

To send a copy of your replay merely follow the steps below:

IF YOU ARE SENDING THE REPLAY:
1.) Save your replay as you normally do
2.) Go under replays in your GT Home screen
3.) Select the replay you want to send to others
4.) Export to your Save Data. Now it can be found under Save data PS3
5.) Find your Replay you want to send to others and copy it to a flash drive
6.) Upload to your computer and put it under a folder with your PSN/GTVault name on it
7.) Zip said folder (or otherwise make the contents available in 1 folder)
8.) E-mail to the people you want to e-mail it to

    IF ON THE RECEIVING END:
1.) Check your E-mail for the save and save that replay/folder to the desktop
2.) Plug in your flash drive and move that folder to your flash
3.) Go under your Save Data (PS3) and find your flash drive's name
4.) Go under your flash drive and find the replay
5.) Copy the replay to YOUR Save Data (PS3)
6.) Boot up GT5, go to your GT5 Home screen and go under replay
7.) Go up 2 ticks and should show Import Replays
8.) Select which replay you want to upload
    9.) Watch and enjoy!

Good luck all and have fun!

I can see the benchmark is around 2:00 flat, I can't get there... if I'm at 2:13 then I know there's someone 15sec faster than me, I'm just not good at anything, so I bow out....

Question. If I were to send you the tune, could someone race it for me? I have horrible racing skills...

First run with minor tweaks puts me at 2:11.368
I don't think you are far off the mark at all Draghon, 2:00 will be nearly impossible to get to; 2:05's are more likely to be a winning time.

I was playing around with the car with everything stock except aerodynamic parts for 16 laps and managed to get a stock time of 2:21:324. again that time is with everything stock except the aerodynamics and even then that hasn't been touched. At the moment I doing some note-taking on the car's overall behavior while stock. I say keep an eye on your transmission as well as your max revolution's for Horsepower if you want to get the full potential out of the car.

Tuning thus far, Keeping my time hidden for now. Brake balance tip.

So far, here are the following things I've tuned within my S2000:
    Suspension and Camber
    Transmission
Weight and various power mods combinations
    Brake Balance

    What I Haven't messed with:
    Limited Slip Differential
    Toe angle
    Ballast anything

Being honest, I noticed that the front brakes lock up before the rear would. So there is a hint when it comes to tuning the brake balance.

Ummm brakes should be locking up first in the front otherwise that rear end would just rip around.

Slightly off-topic but talking about brakes, remember reading about a Napier-Ralton race car back in the 1930's. Thing could reach 170-80mph (200mph+ top speed setup), while only having a rear brake. Would've been scary stopping in a straight line in that.

Now, I'm planning to get work done with the S2K this week. Will try to get it done by Monday.

Sorry guys I let this one slip as I got caught out with uni work these last few weeks
However before the death I'd like to notch up a neat 2:09.162, nowhere near as fast as could be done but not too bad considering how bad the understeer felt when I started out.
Thanks for the tip on the brakes, Dj, quite a handy tip and something I remembered from when I raced my mates in S2Ks.
