Enhancements galore
Updated 03/08/2003 6:11 PM Post a reply Quote this post View Kerr's info
I've been working on a vast array of enhancements for gtvault.com for some time. I finally uploaded many of them today. Here are the highlights:

  • Added Tires, NA Tune, Turbo, Intercooler, HP, and Muffler to the Setup Form. All old setups are backward compatible and can be updated with the additional information if you want to do so. I went to the trouble of verifying what mods were available for every car in the game, and have implemented the necessary checks in the Setup Form so that invalid selections cannot be made.
  • Changed database platforms to SQL Server 2000. The main difference you guys will see is an increase in performance during peak hours.
  • Added the ability to search by Username or E-mail address on the Members page. If you like a certain tuner, you can now find them very easily instead of having to just filter by letter.
  • Changed much of the cosmetics of the site. While I retained the general color scheme, I have changed the appearance of lists so they alternate colors and are easier to read. I've made many changes which are more sublte yet make things easier to look at and navigate.
There are probably a lot of things I'm forgetting and a lot more things I'd like to do, but I wanted to get the setup enhancements out there. The new additions will cut down on a lot of repetitive questions I've seen pop up in setup comments.

Great features Kerr, takes alot of the guesswork out of getting the hp most people state in their setups.

Odd, when i originally posted this, it gave me an error, but it still went through.

I've noticed much faster loading times. It is almost as fast as the computers at school. They use a Pentium 4 XP and have a cable modem...I use a Pentium 1 and windows 95...Now I can move much faster throughout the site. Thanks

I have been looking at this site for a long time now and I have only just decided to register and I think that the new Enhancements are really good.

Teken,

Hey you get the same error that I probably do when I try to post a comment. Question for ya . . . do you not get emails telling you of new replies to the setup you posted on too?

I've fixed the problem you guys were running into when posting comments. It had to do with my changing over to a new database platform. All should be well now.

A place for hybrids
Updated 03/21/2003 3:55 PM Post a reply Quote this post View Chief_Mojo_Rising's info
Hi all,

Great job on this site, Kerr. It's the best GT3 site ever, and getting better all the time.

I wasn't sure where to put this post.(more like a request). I was wondering, is there any way that you can make a place to post hybrids and there settings. I'm not exactly sure how you would impliment that. I know a lot of ppl have gamesharks and codebreakers, and want codes and cars for it. I have posted a couple of hybrids already, but I don't want to make anyone mad, if those setups aren't welcome.

I did an outragious PT Bruiser with a Viper V10 in it, and a mild Celica TRD conversion to RWD. I know I drive certain cars and think, " I wonder what this FWD car would be like with RWD. Or what a mini cooper would be like with an F1 engine in it (just for fun, of course). It would be nice to have a place on this monument to Gran Turismo excellence, to post and get hybrid cars.

Thanks for considering, Mojo

P.S. The reason that you sometimes don't get an e-mail that says someone replied to your post, is that, they have to reply to your setup or exact post on that setup. If Teken had a post on your setup and I clicked the reply button on Tekens' post, then he will get the email, and not you. I hope I made at least a little sense. Like, I just clicked on Kerr's reply button. so you wouldn't get the email, she would. (having your email address correct helps too, just kidding)

Hybrids and e-mail notification
Updated 03/21/2003 5:21 PM Post a reply Quote this post View Kerr's info
Chief_Mojo_Rising - thanks for the compliments on the site.

I'm not opposed to people posting hybrid settings, however it is generally cause for confusion. If you do decide to post a hybrid setting, be sure to say so in the notes unless you want a ton of questions. Additionally, from personal experience I know a lot of people have trouble getting their hybrids exactly the same unless of course they are trading saves via a SharkPort. I haven't made a separate hybrid car designation because of all the variables and issues that come up. Believe me, when it comes to setups and limiting users' input it's hard enough just dealing with all the variables that GT3 hands you when looking across the entire inventory of available cars.

On e-mail notification: If you have automatic e-mail notification enabled here is how it works. Whenever you post to any setup or comment on the home page, you are put on a list of people who receive an e-mail whenever the next person posts. This happens regardless of which reply button you press. You will only receive one e-mail even if 50 people post before the next time you log in. The next time you log in, every one of your e-mail notifications is reset so even if you didn't look at a setup or post for which you are subscribed, you will receive an e-mail when the next person posts a comment. In a perfect world, everyone who posted to this thread will receive an e-mail because of my most recent reply. In actuality, because of the problems the site was having for a short time, only the people who replied below my 'I've fixed the problem' post will receive an e-mail.

I've never attempted to explain this in words before because, as you can see, it gets sort of involved. My goal was to notify everyone appropriately but not notify them every friggin time a post was made.
