GT Concept NTSC anyone???
Updated 10/07/2002 9:07 PM Post a reply Quote this post View Kerr's info
Hey folks, as you may have noticed I haven't been making many updates to the site lately. This is namely because I've been too busy to do much gaming, and when I have been gaming it's been on UT2003, Dungeon Siege, D2 or Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. Anyway, the site pretty much runs on the members activity to begin with. Another main reason I've been holding off on doing anything is because I kept waiting for GT Concept to come out so I'd have a new game to build another section of the site around. I was curious so I got to reading today and found some reviews on the PAL version of GT Concept. Firstly, when the hell is this game coming out in the States? It turns out that Concept is pretty much just an arcade game with little to no tuning capabilities built in.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that's pretty much what I gather from the following two reviews:

Totalgames.net review
Gamesdomain.com review

I don't know about you guys, but this looks pretty disappointing for true fans of the GT series. I've always looked to the GT series when I wanted to play a game that required a little more skill than the typical arcade racer. I can think of quite a few PC based racing sims that are much harder than the GT series, but on consoles the GT series has been the only real choice for people wanting a little sim-like challenge. I guess we'll all have to bide our time for the next 'real' installment of Gran Turismo, eh?

I don't know about you guys but I think PD should've left the arcade games to the likes of EA. It will be interesting to see how this latest installment fares in the units sold category. What do you think?

I didnt know they had any thought of bringing Concept to the States.

and IMO, i think it was just some cheap way to make some extra money by showcasing some concept cars.

GT Concept is aracde only

I have GT Concept (well my brother does) and i've finished it, to be hinest it took me 6 hours to finish it and get the 10 million credit reward. Basically it's only arcade, and without any tuning, but u can setup the cars, so Kerr, if u want to do a setup site for it it would be nice :P
iIt has alot of new cars, and the graphics are better than gt3...but it's really really easy for anyone who's done 15%+ of gt3.

Firstly: it aint goin to the states.
Secondly: it did come out here in Auz for any who was curious.
Thirdly: I dont have it and wont get it because I dont beleive it to be a true installment in the GT series. (welll I might get it one day just so I can have the WHOLE series but I doubt it)
FOURTHLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: It was only made to be a small little game to go along with the actual car show in Japan that goes with the name. (well it was made to go with some JAP. concept car show) And it was only ment to be released in small numbers just to go with the whole car show. But seeing as it had the name GT going with it, natuarlly everyone wanted it and so they made more for JAPAN ONLY. But due to outrage that it wasnt releaed in Europe after so many more copies were made and reviews were done they released a PAL version for AUZ and Europe. As for US of A I have no idea if you will ever get it.
Fithly: buy it if you can and MUST have it. but really its only a gimick pretty much.
Sixthly: kind of sad story eh?

Ahh - this makes more sense now. So, it seems a US (NTSC) version of the games won't be coming out. If the ability to tune isn't there and the game is real 'arcadey' in feel then I would just as soon not play it to begin with. If I want arcade then I'll pick up the NFS series. Sounds like PD sold out to make a buck or two on the arcade scene. I guess we'll have to wait for awhile until the next real installment of GT comes out.

I think of Concept as Gran Turismo 3.5, small improvements here and there but not overly a new game.

Hey all. Im new here and am a BIG fan of the whole GT series. I would like to see GT CONCEPT come to the state just to have it to the collection. I too really like the "tuning" capabilities of the whole series and since "CONCEPT" does not offer that I would probably only play it to pass the time.
I was also interseted in any info any of you have on GT4 or where I might be able to read up on it.

I really haven't heard anything yet about GT4 - not even a tentative date. It will be interesting to see how much more graphical power they can get out of the PS2.

apparently its due for 2004/2005 area. and apparently GT3 only uses 25 % of the PS2's power. Jinkees! imagine if that is true what we really could see! but somehow it seems a myth or stretched truth?..............

Thanks for the news. I agree - I somehow doubt when GT4 comes out we'll be looking at a game that's 'night and day' different from GT3 in terms of graphical detail.

I dont think they will be extremely better. like the differences between GT2 and GT3. nothing that serious. But I do think they will be quite better. well at a minimum they will be as agood as GT concept. and theyre better than GT3. SO I reckon their is actually room for improvement. Just not THAT BLOODY MUCH! Stick Out Tongue

Head2 Head Racing
Posted 10/27/2002 10:13 AM Post a reply Quote this post View CRAIGSTER's info
I would imagine the brainchilds responsible ror the GRAN TURISMO phenomenon most likely tried creating a better HEAD2HEAD RACING version of the game. Having raced on the LINK setup and running multiple PS2's and GT3's it was REAL COOL the way you can see the field on your own TV versus the splitscreen. However; what also SUCKED about the LINK setup was the fact that you could only race with CPU cars from the Arcade mode. Often times if you raced with different cars; someone may have had a very distinct advantage with one car over another. I also agree that the entire POINT of racing with GRAN TURISMO is the actual "virtual reality mechanic" ability in all of us. So it may come to pass that I will likely OWN the new version when it arrives in stores; but could be VERY DISAPPOINTED if all I've heard and read about it is true.

CRAIGSTER - I agree on the lack of car choice in i-Link mode. While it was a ton of fun to race 5 other people at the same time with not splitscreen bs, having only Arcade cars to choose from was quite a disappointment. Whenever me and my friends get together for i-Link battles we usually all choose the same car to keep the race fair. If you think about it, though, you would need to apply the same rule if Garage cars were available. The best race, IMO, would be if everyone used the same garage car with the same mods but with their own setup.

Arcade cars vs Garage cars
Updated 11/04/2002 2:49 PM Post a reply Quote this post View CRAIGSTER's info
Actually my friends and I have gotten together on many occasions to race competively in various formats. We've come up with BRACKET racing, our own version of ENDURANCE racing, CUP racing where points are awarded much like the game does and many other styles of races. We all BUILD our garages based on the categories of races which we are to engage in that day. It is ENTIRELY possible to have a number of different cars with different characteristics(ie;Horsepower,Weight and other variables) be closely competitive. However, it may be that a persons ability to get MAXIMUM performance out of a car is what ultimately creates a mismatch ... NOT the car itself.
To date I have 6 cars in my SETUPS file and they are setup to be competetive with one another according to the COMMENTS section. If you were to take 2 Arcade cars and race HEAD2HEAD with another person ; the Driving Ability is what will win the race. If you take the same 2 cars in SIMULATION mode and each sets up their own car; then not only does the Driving Ability come into play but so does the Ability to get that car's Maximum Performance in terms of Setting up the car. I also contend that a heavycar with more Horsepower can be competitive with a lighter car with less Horsepower. THAT'S PHYSICS!!!
My friend Sammy, who goes by AMSTERDAMSAM, and who has a couple of setups on here as well is also from the 816. I'm sure as many racing enthusiasts as there are in COWTOWN; surely we could get together and RACE. I thouroughly ENJOY your website ... keep up the good work.

Believe it or not, I really only play SP on D2. I'm pissed at it right now anyway because I have this polebarb @ clvl 34 and I'm having a hard time with Diablo just in Normal mode.
