It would be very, very sad if my PS3 broke down. I've owned almost every major console back to the Atari VCS/2600, and none of them have broken on me thus far.
Ok, well there's no way in hell I'm getting my PS3 near water, Draghon!
The fan is running fine, albeit it kicks into high speed mode very quickly. I cleaned out the vents with compressed air / vacuum, and that seemed to help a bit, but the unit is still getting crazy hot. I do that once in awhile, but it has been some months since the last time I did it. I haven't seen any glitches or freezes in the last couple days at least.
At this point I suspect the original thermal paste is all but dried up. I've seen many, many pictures of the craptastic job done with thermal paste application during initial assembly. I just ran out of AS on my last build, and so need to go pick some up. I'll do that soon and tear down this old bastard to get some decent thermal compound installed.
Thanks for the responses, guys!
