The Dark Side
Posted 12/13/2012 8:58 PM Post a reply Quote this post View Kerr's info
I don't talk about it much on here since this is a Gran Turismo related site, but I'm also a Forza fan. I've played all four proper Forza releases, and was interested in what the reaction to Forza Horizon might be. Anyone expecting a simulation is going to be disappointed, but that's never what Turn 10 was going for. I picked up a copy a few days ago and am about 75% done with the single player game. It most definitely has the arcade feel. You can upgrade cars with the usual parts, but no tuning of anything is available. The physics are not full-on Need For Speed arcade style, but definitely in the neighborhood. One cool thing carried over from the other Forza releases is engine swaps. For instance, I swapped the Lamborghini V12 Aventador engine into my 1987 Countach, which gave it life a couple vehicle classes above its norm.

Those things said, I'm enjoying playing through the game. For those with an Xbox 360 and some time, I definitely recommend Forza Horizon. And don't even think about paying retail. I paid less than $35 shipped from Amazon Marketplace.

Has anyone else been playing Forza Horizon?

Speaking of other games, I pre-ordered Resident Evil 6 from GameStop and when it came out I didn't have the money to get it so I waited and waited till my Birthday when I knew my parents would give me money. I went to the store and said I had pre-ordered the game and they said that I was lucky to pick it up now cause it was on sale for $40 so I shelled out +the $5 down I paid something like $43.49

I never got into the RE series of games.

I was mistaken about being 75% done though; I just finished Forza Horizon last night. A number of people were complaining about how short the single player game was. I got about 16 hours total out of it.

16 hours seems pretty alright in length to me. People who complain about length like that surely haven't played older game like ones in the arcade.

It was a nice diversion for a few hours. I don't see much replay value at all, as like most racing games the "story" is puff and linear. I haven't tried online as I'm not in the mood to re-up my Xbox Live membership just to crash around with a bunch of 10 year olds.

I don't have an Xbox, but does anyone here play Shift 2? I played it casually, but just recently it became a sort of obsession of mine.

I played the first Shift for a bit, but it never hooked me. Is the second one a lot better?

Shift is good with a wheel, the ONLY real problem was that the damn E-brake was swapped around from GT5 (X instead of O) (Edit: I'm thinking of ProStreet though I do have Shift but haven't tried it with a wheel...)

I meant to get all the NFS series but my funds have dried up...

I DOOOOO think the drifting in ProStreet is way better than GT5

Shift 2 is a wonderful game as long as you don't use a wheel. The wheel support in the console version of Shift 2 is so bad that you really can't even use them. If that was fixed and they got a lot more cars, S2U could easily be much better than GT5 or FM4.

I tooled around with the demo of the first Shift and was pretty impressed with it. The cockpit view was nice, and I liked the interior noise. There were bumps, creaks, and rattles and the like. With Gran Turismo all you get is engine noise and tire squeal.

I'm thinking about giving Red Dead Redemption a second play through until I get my Christmas goodies from the wife. Easily one of the best games of all time.

Burnout Paradise was recommended to me the other day. I loved Burnout 3 for the PS2, anyone have an opinion on Paradise?

If you're a Burnout fan in general, Paradise is a good installment in the series. It was one of the earliest driving games I can recall that is open-world based.

Yeah I play Shift 2 Unleashed every now and then. Love how brutal and in your face the racing is. Don't like however the either on/off accelerator and twitchy handling when not bang on the racing line.

Don't forget Need For Speed underground 2 and its free roam capabilities.
If you're a Need For Speed and/or Burnout fan, You'll love Most Wanted 2012.

Holiday Seasonal Events
Posted 12/20/2012 9:44 AM Post a reply Quote this post View StigsTibecuadorianco's info
I'm off topic as usual, but the holiday seasonal events are worth mentioning somewhere on GTVault.
4 events; 3 races, 1 Time Trial.
Races:
Penalties are activated (Short cut and ramming I've come across)
Changeable weather
Skid Recovery force locked to ON
Race Soft tyre available.
Tyre wear on
Awarded: (for gold, silver, bronze)
1x Car restoration ticket
1x Restore Rigidity ticket
1x Special paint item [Mine were all matte (colour)]

Race 1:
600PP. JGTC. @ Suzuka (10 laps)
Prize: 750,000 cr
Starts Dry and Sunny
Changes lap 3 and begins to rain
AI pit around lap 6-7 for intermediates
Rain stops at the end and drops to about 25% water for the finish.
Fastest car is the Nissan Nismo Xanavi Z '06

What I did: Start on Race soft, just abuse skid recovery force and be the fastest car in the wet on slick tyres

Race 2:
600PP, Normal or Tuned cars @ Nordschleife (3 laps)
Prize: 1,000,000 cr.
Starts 20% wet and raining pretty hard
It stops raining pretty quickly and drops to about 15% wet on lap 2, before it starts raining again. The rain stops again on the final lap.
The AI do not pit in this race.
Fastest car is the CT230R in the dry, Amuse GT1 Turbo in the wet. CT230R was able to stay in the lead for my race.

What I did: Started on intermediate tyres, cursed GT when it got dry, became happier when it rained again, cursed them again when it dried out at the end and my rears were half spent.

Race 3:
700PP, Race cars @ Spa-Francorchamps (10 laps)
Prize: 1,000,000 cr.
Starts 30% wet and sunny
It starts raining on lap 2-3 when track reaches 20-25% wet.
It then rains all the way to 80-90% wet and stops (at about lap 8)
Dries to about 75-80% wet for the finish.
The AI do not pit in this race.
The Peugeot 905 race car heads the pack, and generates a huge traffic jam. Any car that gets ahead of it will be much faster. The Pescarolo C60 Hybrid Judd race car or Bentley Speed 8 are both very quick.

What I did: Start on race softs, battle the water with skid recovery, battle the rain with skid recovery, cling to the belief the rain will stop and go pretty slow. Finally give up on lap 6 and go for intermediates. Drop back to 10th, make up 12 seconds on leader in middle sector. Continue to destroy 40 second lead.

What I recommend:
Start on intermediates, just weather the dry spell at the start and walk away from the AI using the additional grip skid recovery gives you in the wet. Treat Eau Rouge with respect.

Time Trial:
Normal time trial rules apply, no wall contact, 2 wheels within the track boundaries.
Corvette C7 prototype thing on Sport Hard tyres.
Prize: 500,000 cr. (The event page indicates 550,000, but I received 500,000)
No tuning allowed
Skid Recovery force locked OFF
Day time changes from dawn and gets brighter, I only did 1 lap and did not see if all 24 hours of time are available.
Gold Time: 7:50.000
Car is a bit oversteery, and after the previous races takes a bit to adapt to.
Fastest time on the leader board is currently a 7:20.5

Completing all the events gets you a level 23 gift car ticket.

All seasonal events are paying out double, and as a result of the base prize being doubled, the PP adjustment bonus is ALSO doubled.

I figured I'd give you all a heads up on the events so you don't waste 20 minutes to get screwed over by a wrong tyre choice. GT usually has a weather condition to start with, changes it once at about 30% distance, then changes it back to the start condition at 80% distance. This turned out mostly true yet I was still caught out at Spa.

All I did was use a stock 908 HDi on intermediate tires the whole race. The 908 torque makes up for its lack of power

Yea big forza fan sat here to kerr Big Grin Im enjoying horizon a lot altho I've not been on it for a few weeks. Online is fun but only with mates, free roaming around the map for example and doing the co-op challenges to earn $$$/£££ is rather cool!

For example: All players drive from point A to B in lamborghini's. You drive to the start point and then from there you all cruise to the finishing point. You can set a group GPS route for everyone to follow...think of it as a road trip if you will but on a game Thumbs Up

Add me on xbl if you want mate, just message me 1st so I know who it is haha
