So I'm collecting cars in GT5...
Updated 04/19/2011 2:41 PM Post a reply Quote this post View Kerr's info
Who knew what a laborious process it would be trying to get all of the cars in the game. First, there are way, way, way, way too many of these:
  • Mazda Miata / MX-5
  • Nissan Skyline
  • Mitsubishi GTO/3000GT
  • Subaru Impreza
  • Mitsubishi Evolution
  • Acura NSX
  • Honda Civic
There is far to little material variance in about 90% of those that I've seen thus far to justify making them "unique" models.

It's also very annoying that cars like the 1969 GT40 Race car cost over 19 million credits, while at the same time I have a 20 million credit limit. That is asinine, especially considering how seldom the car appears in the used lot. Combine that with the fact that the car cannot be gifted, and it's basically dumb luck and not spending any winnings getting a hold of one. Others, like the Chaparral 2J Race Car are around 14-15 million, so you're somewhat in the same boat with them.

That said, I do currently have around 580 Standard and around 50 Premium cars. It's getting more and more difficult to find cars I don't already own in the used lot though, so I imagine the last ~30% is going to be very painful and time consuming.

Is anyone else trying to collect all the cars in GT5?

More or less the same for me.

I've got just over 260 cars in my garage, the majority of which are cars that I want and prefer. The rest are prize cars that cannot be sold (or at least not for any value), so I've just kept them.

The main problem for me is what to do with them all since my funds are drying up... In the past there has been a race or 2 that one could use to generate some quick cash (be it prize credits or a gift car to sell) to take care of the next project.

The best I can think of now is taking every race car I own and run it through the Dream Car Championship once or take the car I'm working on and run that through every race it qualifies for... and that simply isn't motivating for me.

Oh woes me!

To get cash, I've been grinding the Extreme Like The Wind event at Daytona using the X2010. It's 5 laps, around 3:30 total race time for 70,000 credits. No matter what route you take, it's hella boring trying to accumulate the cash required to obtain some of the higher end and very rare "used" cars.

Have fun while you race others. If you don't why are you racing in the first place?

I'm making more progress now. I'm up to around 790 uniques, with 720 of them being Standards. It's getting tougher and tougher to find any cars in the used lot now that I don't already have.

supposedly there's a cheat where you can set the game day to whatever your bday is or something and you can get certain cars... I read it on I think GameFAQS or GameWinners....

There is, You can obtain a gift car for the year of your birthday.

Or more specificity, the year in which you've chosen to set your birthday for. Then you simply just have to go and change the date of your birthday in your PSN account.

Yeah, the birthday exploit is kind of a pain, plus it's relatively useless as you can no longer gift cars worth over 1 million credits.

I'm up to about 745 unique Standard models, which leaves 65 yet to be acquired. It's very slow going at this point. When I get a new batch of "Just In" cars, out of 30 total I will typically get 0-2 that I don't already own.

Up to 935 cars, and its a long old haul to get the rest. 20 million credit limit is a pain.

Keep collecting your cash. Providing you have completed at least one licence, you can go into that and flip five days at a time. It saves a bit of time.

I haven't been doing this in awhile, but I was at around 765 unique Standard models last I checked. I have around 100 Premiums, but they are for the most part easily acquired, so that is not my current area of focus. I've been getting into the first race series and start/stop 5x to get the used car lot fully reset. I haven't tried the license thing, but I'll see if it's quicker. With my new SSD, tracks load in about 20 seconds, and menu transitions are much snappier. It's been a lifesaver.

Well I couldn't figure out how to flip five days in the License area. I tried loading up a test and then entering/exiting 5x as I do in the race events, but my used car list didn't get refreshed. I'm still doing the same basic trick in races though.

Kerr, you would have to load an new test... So you're probably better off dropping from a race as you've been doing to save time.

Ok, that's what I was thinking as I didn't see any quicker way than the race reload technique. I'm up to about 785 unique Standards, and now it's very, very slow going. In an hour of going in and out of races I maybe pick up 1-2 cars.

13 to go for the 1000
Posted 06/02/2011 11:43 AM Post a reply Quote this post View Crafty_C's info
I've already got all my Premiums. I've just got the standards to go. I think there are about 43 left. It's getting really tedious going. I'm also really fed up with missing the cars because of lack of funds. I found a solution.... it's even more boring and slow, BUT IT WORKS!!!

I set up a new account, and added my main file as a friend. I then used the new account to host Remote Racing. Simply share all your b-spec drivers on your main file. Then all that's required is to race away. Just keep racing all the available races over and over. this will eventually earn you on average 450,000 (six b-spec drivers from main file) for each round of races. It takes around three and a half hours. I realise it's really slow going. but keep at it. After a while, return to your main file and receive your prize money from your b-spec drivers. You may think this is the slowest and most boring way to move forward and I agrree with you. The downside to this is no control what-so-ever over the race. However, there is a huge advantage. Your secondhand dealership doesn't move on your main file. Then all you need to do is flip your days forward to look for those cars you have't got.

I use the Licence tests to do this. enter the first test and move forward via the arrows. Exit on day 5. Your garage will now have five days worth of new cars in it. I guess that using a series championship is just as good.

Good luck with that X2010. A-speccing with that thing is a nightmare. I'm crunching with the Cappucino (EA21R) RM in the Seasonal Events K-Cup. It earns me 101,700Cr in around 3:03-3:05 minutes. Along with checking the secondhand dealership, I'm clearing 1.5 million credits an hour.

While I have an alternative account, I also gifted a 'Ticket 1000' from my main file. I have back-ups of both files. So I'm sending myself a ticket every day back to my main account. Again, tedious. But it's proving useful.

Hope this helps. I would appreciate any tips on driving the X2010.

8 Standards to go
Posted 06/02/2011 1:30 PM Post a reply Quote this post View Kerr's info
I happened upon the B-spec trick awhile back too, and used the B-spec grinder to control remote racing on my alt account directly from my PC. You're right, it does work, but the credits don't accumulate all that fast.

As such, I've turned to A-spec grinding using rubber bands with the X2010 on the Like The Wind - Indy race. Here is a decent Youtube video of the technique. Nevermind the language barrier, just pay attention to the rubber band positions and the USB keyboard with Enter key held down. Using this technique, I can recharge from 0 to 20 million credits in about 22 hours. The only problem is, I used my Vettel version X2010, which is quite rare and cannot be traded. It has around 60k miles and a healthy dose of lost power, even after engine overhauls are performed. If you don't want to sacrifice that one, I suggest purchasing the 20M version from the new dealership. Too bad you have to be A-spec level 40 in order to acquire one in this fashion.

In my experience, there is no faster way to earn credits, unless of course you actually do the grinding yourself. To me, that's asinine, as the credit system is broken and the used car rotations are retarded. I'm already sacrificing a ton of time rotating through thousands of days worth of used car rotations, I'm not about to spend that much more manually grinding for credits to buy completely arbitrarily priced cars that, at their rarest, may show up every couple hundred game days.

I decided to go for Standards first, as I knew it would likely be a tougher task to complete than Premiums. All said, I have eight Standards to go. I've spent untold hundreds of millions of credits, and I'm currently on game day 7,150 (yep, it's that retarded). Prepare for extreme frustration as cars like the Chaparral 2J @ ~15 million credits will come up, and you'll not have even close enough funds to buy them. Don't expect to see them again for a long, long time. You'll have these intermittent funding problems until you get down to less than 15 or so Standards to go, and even then perhaps after that.

At that point, you'll generally have funds, but the cars that you need to buy are going to be expensive for the most part, so be prepared for some surprises. At one point I attempted to sandbag funds by purchasing somewhat expensive cars. The intent was, when I came across an expensive and rare car for which I didn't have enough credits, I would sell the sandbagged cars for cash. The problem there was, the selling limits are so nerfed it's not even worth the effort and time. I just sacrificed those rare cars in the hopes they would come back around through the used car rotation.

I find myself spending upwards of an hour going through used car rotations with zero unique purchase opportunities. This is with an SSD equipped PS3, which means my load times are approximately half that of stock PS3 owners. The only reason I can stomach the monotony is that I workout on my stationary bike while sitting in front of my TV, grinding away. Yay PD.

You could definitely use that technique with a real cheap USB keyboard, foregoing an SSD, but that does certainly help load times both for races and menus. I've been at below the 20 to go mark for Standards around a month now. Hopefully you'll be in a luckier place in the used car rotation.

Never had much luck

I'm away from my PS3 for the next couple of weeks, so I'll have to Remte Race for a while. Hopefully, by which time i'll have some credits to buy the Chaperel 2D which is currently sitting in the secondhand dealership laughing at me. Well it feels that way. Not sure how many days I've done. About 2000 I think. Most of it manual grinding on Seasonal Events. Down to 40 Cars now. Thanks to my saved Ticket 1000 in part.

I've just got the cars to find, complete my Licences and Special Events in Gold, then B-spec the game and I'm done..... Then, start all over again with a new file. If I get time I'm going to attempt an even more labourious task. Write up a Guide to the game.

As for the keyboard, I've already got one. It's a bit tricky, but the rubber bands work. However, a guy I work with sometimes reckons he can sort it through the Laptop I have. It will be interesting to find out if he's right.

Good luck hunting down those cars.

I've been thinking about yor poor car, it's rare indeed. You can only win that once. However, I believe I saved that ticket to a different file. When I get back home, i'll check where I've got it stashed. If you want I can send you the ticket. I'll check first, then let you know via this post. I'll be home in 13 days from now.

Thank you for the very nice offer, Crafty_C. I'm not too worried about it... cars are meant to be driven, and while I have experienced a drop in power, it still looks nice after a car wash. Smile

If I'm interested in racing one that's at top shape, I can always pick up one from the dealership.
