Race Pro (Simbins new XBOX360 Simulation Game)
Posted 02/20/2009 8:19 AM Post a reply Quote this post View GT2000's info
Let me start off by saying that the following statements are my personal opinions, everyone probably isn't going to agree with everything I say.*

Race Pro testing conditions - Professional mode only, all assists off, manual gears and M$ wheel. The way it should be played

GRAPHICS-
Race Pro is grainy at best, a little jaggy, and the reflections and glare are straight out of last gen Forza. However when the road conditions are changed to rainy the water effects on the windows look quite impressive. In car view is rather nice tho and I think Forza 3 needs to have this as well.

DAMAGE-
I think SimBin could have done a better job with damage for a few reasons. When you SLAM into the back of another car (I mean really SLAM) you don't hear crunching/breaking of anything, and you can't even tell you hit him. Second, you can't pull up telemetry or a damage report to see how bad the damage actually is. The RB button toggles the HUD, they should have made it pull up telemetry. Overall, damage LOOKS okay but it could have been improved.

PHYSICS MODEL-
The cars drive really nice, watching a replay I could see the AI car in front of me moving around under heavy braking at which point I dived up the inside only to run wide and be retaken. (That was turn 1 at Laguna Seca) Assists - Not only can you turn on/off ABS, TCS, and STM, you can set them to Low, Med, or High.

TUNING-
The lack of telemetry data makes tuning a drivers task, and assumes you have tuning knowledge to be effective. EVERYTHING is independent, from tire pressure, spring pressure, bump, rebound, you name it, it can be independently tuned .

OVERALL-
I like it. It's not going to win any beauty awards but the core simulation itself will be very rewarding for those who put the time behind the wheel.

OTHER KEY FEATURES OF NOTE-
- Race Pro has realistic sounding/looking back-fires, and tailpipe flames.
- Race Pro has much better camera replay angles.
- Race Pro has no telemetry feedback data.
- Race Pro has some nice cockpit interior views.

Sounds like a GT4 mk II for Xbox, except:
It doesn't utilise the console for best graphics,
The damage still fails, (hopefully GT5 won't)
The physics model seems to be closer to real life than GT4, a controller in GT4 allowed you to get away with murder,
Seems like a step forward in tuning tire pressures, which allows you to change wear characteristics, but will GT5 match or be better than this model?
Telemetry data would be great, but I will ask why would you make the game so it could be for the serious simulator racer in that you can tune every part on the car, but you don't have any telemetry data to look at to tune with??
That is the GT series 'real driving simulator' claim with no damage because it is also a game for younger children who want a game, not a simulator.
One day, hopefully we will get everything we want out of a racing game,

Yeah this game was a bit disappointing. But they are being compared to Forza and GT. They really didn't stand a chance.

Hmmm, with the new unnamed PS3-exclusive Simbin simulator, Supercar Challenge and even a new Need For Speed simulator version (made by some of the original Simbin team), and if you want, Dirt2, coming, the PS3 won't be losing as many racing fans to other platforms soon. Nod

It looks as if 2009 will be a good year.

If you aren't racing on-line with Prologue now, you are missing out on a ton of fun!
Cheers,

Thats very true despite the fact that most ppl i'd race online want to play bumper cars like they do on grid.

The only people who will feel this way are the unorganised.

Find a group of (GTVault?) friends and start planning races! You don't have to just sit there and take it. Once you start loading a Prologue match with friends, the interlopers and crashers & bashers become less of a hassle or they disappear completely. On Monday night, between 25 and 30 drivers of one group were matching at a time. Do you understand all of the implications of this?

You can find good drivers among your friends, or else you can start making/finding new friends.
Throwing your hands up and saying "Oh, you hit me - again! I don't like this game." doesn't help anyone.

You have all seen groups of drivers with clan tags. Now you know why. Wink
Cheers,

MasterGT

Okay, I am a huge fan of racing games. I have GT3 A-Spec, and was less than breathtaken by it. This game is just a terrible racing game. You see, there is a HUGE (and I really mean it) selection of cars. The graphics are gorgeous for a PS2 game. However, the cars handling is some of the worst I have ever seen. When you turn, you have to turn the right way, otherwise you will just skid right into the wall. This most often costs you the race. The cars take forever to pick up speed after an impact. Even really fast cars like the Pennzoil Skyline seem really slow. The game is jsut straight up racing. No customization, no auctioning, nothing. The most you can do is choose the color of the car. I never thought a racing game could be so boring. There is no traffic to worry about, nothing. Just you doing laps. I sincerely tried to like this game, I really did. And when I use my PS2 more than my 360, you know that I love my PS2 with a passion. The races are impossibly hard. Forget about beating this game in one week. I gladly deleted the save off my memory card once I was done. I haven't been this bored with a racing game since NFS: Pro Street. I cannot, under any circumstances recommend this game to anyone, not even a hardcore racing fan. It is jsut that bad.

LOL LOL The Finger remember guys, you have to turn the right way, or else!! WTF LOL

You go and tell me if this car is faster than the Lamborghini Murcielago AND its not.) . The game is jsut straight up racing ( DUH you idiotic SOB). No customization (performance wise you can and further improved numbers), no auctioning (since when GT series had auctions on cars?), nothing. The most you can do is choose the color of the car (BS). Now calm down DJ, lets not jump to conclusions.
It is quite obvious this person may have mental 'issues' that stretch far beyond our knowledge.
Mental retardation or psychosis sound about right, there is no way this guy has any touch with reality. I am not sure he even has the game.
What a joke, see you guys around,
Oh, and before you can say this - "LOL!! 343 VISITORS!! OMG!!"

Yeah, stellar review for sure... and by "no customizations" does he mean no flame decals for a CRX?

Anyways, after a year of playing GT5P I found myself coming back to GT4. I was glad not only to see GTVault still up but to see activity on the site... new car tunings, posts, etc...

So I was thinking about how in the past guys on GTVault would post race challanges. Set the restrictions, give a week to allow anyone participating to tweak their setups for what ever car they were using, then post their fastest time before the deadline.

Anyone interested?

Did something like that with legopocolypes about 3-4 months ago

ACKnowlty, I love the idea, actually right now Brette and I have a similar thing happening, but with a different system. Seeing as Brette and I either have no time on our hands or take ages to do a tune, we decided there is no time limit to do the race, but you only get 3 attempts, all of which count, no restarting.
If you are polling for who would be interested, I would run (If I got the time) but I'd probabley be in the back to midfield with limited tuning time. All the same it would be interesting to see how people approach the same car with the regulations and how they go about it.
I guess one way to do it, would be to post a tune of a car (no values) state the rules, track and car(s) and when the challenge starts/ends. From there, people can access the challenge and rules and start tuning. Results could be posted on the first tune (Challenge starter) Thats my two cents...

Great idea StigsTC. I was thinking more like a month or so for the time limit. It's good to see some guys up for it.

So here it is for anyone that wants in:

BWM M5 - Trial Mountain Circuit REVERSE

I posted a setup for the M5. Check it out for more details.

As the title stated, I will do the next one right after May31st. Meaning the next one will be from June 1st to July 4th (independence day, everyone in USA shouldn't have work that day.)
If not USA July 10th

Your 3 fastest times. I would at least do a 3 lap trial before posting a fast time.
Remember, don't post the setup until after the tuning challenge of that car is over.
