2005 Auto Show In Motion
Posted 08/04/2005 10:00 PM Post a reply Quote this post View Kerr's info
Each year GM sponsors an event held in select cities around the US called the Auto Show in Motion. I attended the event last year and had a great time. I had the chance to drive an '04 Z06 and a ton of other cars, including a lot of the competition. I'm already registered for the 2005 event and wanted to get the word out to those who are interested and have access to one of the following locations:

Anaheim, CA 8/11 - 8/14
Pomona, CA 8/18 - 8/21
Kansas City, KS 8/25 - 8/28
Houston, TX 9/8 - 9/11
San Diego, CA 9/15 - 9/18
Dallas, TX 9/15 - 9/18
Chicago, IL 9/29 - 10/2
Las Vegas, NV 10/6 - 10/9
St. Louis, MO 10/13 - 10/16
San Francisco, CA 10/20 - 10/23
San Jose, CA 11/10 - 11/13

I hope some of you can make it!

Looks like I'm luggin up to Chicago yet again for an auto show! Mid October should prolly still allow for some top down driving.

Hey Kerr, you say you have done this sort of thing before. What kind of money should I expect to be dropping at an event like this? And security better be good, because I might give in to temptation and scamper off with a new Z06. Smirk

Nachtjager - It's free! Everything is set up on a closed course. FYI - you'll have a company escort in the passenger seat when driving cars like the Corvette and SSR. So, if you bring someone, don't plan on them riding with you in either of those.

Speaking of the Z06 - Too bad it won't be in production in time for the shows. IIRC it's coming out in December. Given that, I assume they'll have some regular C6's to drive. I'm so disappointed. Wink

I work on all the GM cars listed in the link kerr supplied , and hate to say it , none are impressive........Buicks = BLA ......Ponitac = BLA .......GMC = They now look like a rock alright.........Cadillac= overpriced chevy and look like an angry kitchen appliance ....... Chevy = Unimpressed !

I have been a GM auto refinish/body tech for 30 years and all I can say is they dont get much cheaper built . To much palstic everywhere and nothing but squeeks and rattles .
I remember when GM made a big deal at the dealerships when the new model year cars came out , it was pretty cool & was a party , now every vehicle looks the same , no styling what so ever .
Corvettes never impressed me , when you have to actually work on them , you'll find out how over engineered they are . When you have to pull the whole front cover to change a park light , you'll wish you had a hand gernade ...LOL

Well have fun anyway guys , drive the wheels off them demos, as they will end up as program cars , and get resold .

Kerr- When you said free the first thing that came to my mind was the old lady from those Focus Factor supplements commercials, but I doubt anyone knows what I'm talking about so I'll shut up. Paranoid

A regular C6 is fine in my book too! Spraytech- Over engineered is ok by me. Thats why the Germans make better driving cars than the lesser GM models you listed. However, from your side of things I understand how it makes your job tougher.

From what I've seen of C6's and even the new GTO (with the 400 ponies) going around the track, I can't wait to get in line. The SSR is a cool enough boulevard cruiser. Free is good news though, Kerr.

SprayTech -- Agreed on the quality of materials. GM has forever been cheeep on interiors. As far as over-engineering, I'm no engineer nor do I work on cars regularly so I'll take your word for it! It would make sense to make a car somewhat more serviceable than the situation you mentioned. Form over function at work here, eh?

Nachtjager - The whole event is a "This is why GM model X is better than competitor X". If you go, you'll see IMO crap comparisons made all day long i.e. GM against not-quite-best-in-class competitors or against itself (Malibu vs. Saab 9-3 -- WTF??).

Kerr- I figured if its free then it was gonna be one huge sales pitch. And hey, I'll listen to their chatter about BMW's while I wring out a CTS-V. However, if I'm even glancing at a Malibu Maxx and a guy says something like "more cargo room than an Audi A3" or something.... I may laugh in his face.

Escudo and 99% complete
Posted 08/19/2005 6:58 AM Post a reply Quote this post View Dave_1's info
1) I'm 99% complete with my game. I've gold cupped all the races, but not all of the license. Is that where I'm missing the full 100%?

2) Are there any secret courses I'm missing? Reason is the Escudo says "Pikes Peak" on it and I was curious if it was just for rally events or "haulin a**" on the Test Track.

Nachtjager - It really wasn't that bad from the sales pitch perspective. There are lots of GM people there to ensure you don't run off with a car, but no one hounded me throughout the day. You'll view a short "training" video on the way in, but that's about it. The comparisons are simply posters at the front of a line for a given car, stating the GM car is better than such and such for X reasons.

Keep Going Hard Dave,
i don't have the answer for you about the license's, and i think that "pikes peak" is just the name for the Escudo.
and just being curious when 99% completed how many cars you end up with in your garage?

Dave_1, your probably only missing the daihatsu midget race. When I was 99.8% that was the only thing I hadn't finished. It's because you have to wait for that three-wheeled car to show up in the historic showroom. You also don't need all gold on the license for 100%, or even have to finish the A and B tests if you transfered. I'm now 100% with all F1 color varitions and I have 767 cars. I also can confirm there is no secret pikes peak track, but I wish they would've put that in there...how many real rally races are on circle tracks? As far as I know they're mostly sprint races. Also Polyphony didn't include many great tracks from previous versions. Maybe they'll do something about that in Visions Gran Turismo.

Yea, I know. Just today I had to take it apart and clean the lens because it stopped reading DVD's.

78 pages to get from the first car to the last. Including the 3 1/2 pages totaling 36 Skyline varitions that are not nessecary, but Mr. Kazunori Yamauchi felt they were. Also an update, I now have 771 cars, I'm killing the used car lots for all the cars I don't have yet. I've got 15 more cars to buy, most of which are in the Historic hall.

Kerr HELP! Another Site Glitch!
Posted 08/22/2005 9:36 AM Post a reply Quote this post View sub_lethal's info
Sorry to double thread and double post but Kerr, I have yet another problem. When I was tuning setup #3756, I could not put a value of 10 on the Shock Absorbers for an Original suspension. It would only let me enter a single digit, either just a 1 or just a 0. I tried to address this in the Notes section but I'm also lettin' you know in case others start reporting this as well. Also it might be confusing for someone new to look at it and be all, "Confused Wait...you can't put a 0 in the game, it stops at 1. What the heck!A Little Slow" Thanks Kerr, hopefully it'll be another thing that seems like it's going to be hard but ends up being easy. Late

P.S. Under Icon Help, the Edit post graphic is the same as the New post graphic. Just thought I'd let you know.
