GT5 News
Post #1 - Posted 01/05/2010 8:44 PM
I don't know if you guys spotted this over on GTPlanet or not, but someone got a hold of a copy of the February 2010 issue of PlayStation Magazine. It contains an article on upcoming features in GT5. From GTPlanet:
* 1,000+ vehicles
* All vehicles have modeled cockpits (170 premium cars will have interior damage modeling)
* All vehicles will have both physical and mechanical damage modeling
* Indy (IRL) cars and tracks
* NASCAR cars and track
* Up to 16 players online
* High-definition video uploads directly to YouTube
* Multi-display rendering
* Head-tracking
* Full weather and night racing on all tracks
* Night/Day on all tracks
The damage modeling is going to be pretty interesting!

Update
Post #6 - Posted 01/06/2010 6:33 PM
I can confirm this with a few more details, in the French magazine JOYPAD in the November '09 edition.
They claim that there will be:
- Private game rooms online
- Interactive debris on the track
- Type Wear, and temperature
- Appearance of telemetry in Real Time
If this has been repeated then sorry...

How about Grand Prix or Enduro on Atari? I used to love playing Pole Position in the arcade. It was, for its time, a very enveloping experience.

Enduro on Atari...
Post #9 - Posted 01/07/2010 1:10 AM
I loved enduro on Atari!! I could never beat the second stage though... (if its the same game, this is a small world) You have to overtake 100 cars throuh day, night, fog, and morning, and if you do you have to overtake 200 cars the next time and so on. I never got to 200... I always wanted to play Grand Prix, but i was too busy not getting to 200 cars on Enduro.

Grand Prix was more or less the same from a passing vehicles standpoint, though it was a side scroller and became next to impossible to play in less than two minutes as the game sped up to insane speeds. It made for good "multiplayer" since games were so short.
Recently, my brother-in-law broke out his Atari 2600 and we played games all night over beers. We played the hell out of Maze Craze, and things got pretty competitive. We had so much fun with it, I purchased new controllers and paddles for him off of eBay. There's an entire market that specializes in restoring old controllers to like new condition. I was astounded when I received them, as they looked and felt brand new to me.
For all the beauty of the new games, and the great control systems of today, there's something really fun about going back to an 8-way control stick with a single button.

gran_turismo_5_delayed_indefinitely
Post #15 - Posted 01/14/2010 9:47 AM

In a surprise press statement, Sony today revealed its much anticipated uber-racer Gran Turismo 5 for the PlayStation 3 has been delayed with a new release date as yet unsettled. The game had been due in Japan this March, with a US and European release date targeting summer 2010.
'To Be Announced', that's the racer's new status, and while Sony isn't saying why the game's been delayed, they are apologizing for the unanticipated hangup.
If you've followed the game, you know it's been in development forever, that it's cost incredible sums (the game's 'godfather' Kazunori Yamauchi put the figure at $60 million as of last November), that it's supposed to be breathtakingly realistic with 1,000 cars and over 20 track locales, and that the skeletal prologue version released over two year ago has itself sold around 3.5 million copies to date.
Sony told game news site CVG that GT5's delay applies to the Japanese market alone. Japan's the only territory where the game had received a firm release date.

I believe the only changed release date at this point is Japan's. From what I was reading, the Q2 release in other markets is still supposed to be on.
Give it time though.
