20,000 Tuners here at GTvault
Im sure Kerr would have liked to have made this post but I'll do it on his behalf as I didn't want to let this moment pass without a mention.

GTvault has now hit a new milestone of 20,000 Total Tuners with over 7000 total setups. Thanks to kerr for keeping the site going and thanks to all of you who have contributed to the site over the past 9 years. Long may it continue with the release of GT5 Thumbs Up

I'm with you GT2000, I am actually stunned that I didn't pick up on this earlier!!
I have one thing to say, lets get that tune per tuner ratio up!! 7600 tunes from 20,000 tuners, thats 1 setup for every 3 tuners, and when you have Fumes with 263 tunes, and several others with over a hundred, this number isn't really represntive at all! Lets get some more tunes in people!! Join a tuner challenge, go after 200 A-spec, blitz your favourite track, just do it and share the fun,

Gran Turismo Have some serious fans on their hands not to disappoint this year. BTW I'm buying both the PS3 version and the PSP version. The PSP version is said to be able to link with the PS3 GT5 for more ad-ons and transfer of tune-ups I guess.

Plus to go on, this should include GT5 in the Vault as well. Although BTWhite had a head start ( I'm 2 weeks behind him). Anyways Congrats to Kerr and GT2000 for staying on this site for almost a decade.

PLEASE JOIN TUNING CHALLENGES, YOU CAN JOIN IN AT ANYTIME AS SO LONG ITS NOT THE LAST WEEK OF IT.

Congratulations, Kerr, and thanks for keeping this project going!

I've been using it again, lately, so I certainly appreciate having this information still available.

Any thoughts on doing it again for GT5?
Cheers,

MasterGT

Thanks to GT2000 for posting on this milestone, and thanks to all for the kind words! It's definitely a testament to the tuning community that GTVault has survived this long in the highly volatile web world. I have seen many sites come and go over the years, and by Internet standards, we have been through at least five generations since GTVault launched on 11/22/2001. There's something to be said for that.

It would be nice to see a higher tune per tuner ratio, but keep in mind that many, myself included, aren't here to tune so much as to find setups and use them to kick a$$ in races. Smile

A number of people have been asking about what is in store for GTVault and GT5. Honestly, at this point, I don't know. The kind of work that goes into a site upgrade like that is very tedious, time consuming, and technical. GT5 looks to be a massive game, even when compared to GT4, which in itself was pretty insane. I need to think seriously about all of the factors before commenting further. The fact that PD has not worked with me at all (or even acknowledged any of my communication) in the past has put a bad taste in my mouth. Regardless, I'll be posting on the home page at some point about what is in store for the future of GTVault.

Thanks again to the community, as you are the reason GTVault is still around.

What kind would you like?

GT forums around the world still have them, in one form or another.

I'm thinking of doing one here, plus a member above has a sig image that involves a future one, too.

Yeah, the banner system was created by MarkusXO, full credit goes to him.
There are tuner challenges here at the vault, started about 3 months ago. The current challenge exists at:
http://www.gtvault.com/gt4/setup-view/s_sid::7987/350Z-%28Z33%29-DjWess/
The start and at around each month, so just be on the look out for new tunes, and of course watch the banner space. MarkusXO updates them when he has time, but you need the original code that he will publish in the tune, all you have to do is change the hyperlink, as the banner IS hyperlinked.
Hope that helps!

OK ekmon1582, raise any other questions about the challenge you have, in the setup of the challenge. However, I'll answer the question.
A tuner challenge, isn't hard.
1. Buy a car, (within the rules)
2. Tune it up with parts to fit withing the specific challenge rules
3. Setup your car for the track
4. Set some seriously fast times (in whatever form is required - free run, familly cup, etc)
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you are happy
6. Post your times in the challenge (when you want, DURING the challenge)
Hope that helps!!
StigsTC
it gets pretty competative, you'd be suprised!!

no problems, glad to see another tuner join a tuner challenge.
The one right now is a real corker, such a broad spectrum, and such a tough track. So far we have seen challenges that incolve 1 make all the same car and specs, and a few class based challenges. You never know what it is going to be.

@therat1989 - Wow, that's a name from the past! I hope things are going well, and I can certainly understand your affinity for the Forza series. I felt the physics was ahead of the game in the GT4 / Forza 2 era. That said, GT5 may be a game changer, but I'm not holdiing my breath as GT4 and GT5P were simply too iterative for me to be blown away by GT games like I was back in the 1990's.

Since I asked about the future here, I will also break the news about a new "beta" tuning site for the various new GTs - Prologue, GT5 and GT PSP.

Interesting, but this site has a long way to go before becoming usable. For instance, entirely blank setups can be posted, which means there is absolutely no form validation taking place. The setups posted on GTVault, by contrast, are tightly controlled by equipment selection, and the ranges of input have been verified by me to be accurate in-game. Further, server side validation occurs after form submission, so that on the off chance someone jacks around with the JavaScript based client validation... no dice. This means that all setups posted on GTVault are valid when applied with the correct equipment. Anything short of that, in my opinion, is unacceptable. It's just that kind of R&D, coding, copious amounts of time and dedication that is difficult to come by.

That said, they do have the right idea with an actual form submission rather than trying to hijack a forum for this purpose. Based on the thread I read over at gtplanet.net, this guy is likely a one man show, much like myself when I first started GTVault. I received an enormous amount of data input help with the GT4 upgrade, however I am still the only person who knows GTVault under the hood so to speak. This is a blessing and a curse all the same. He's a few months of hard work out from having a fully functioning site, but it's good that he's getting beta testers involved at this stage.

At this point, before GT5 is released, all I can recommend is to entertain the idea of collaborating with other web programmers.

Prologue is a piece of cake compared to what will be necessary for GT PSP, since it is now a fixed entity and it won't get updates. PSP just has 800 or so cars to deal with (not that that isn't its own problem). GT5 could be a nightmare, though, that may need some sort of revision tracking for future updates, especially if they affect the physics.

The idea of having a set of permanent "hands" helping you should not be ignored, especially if the alternative in no more GT Vault updates. It would be better to see GTV thrive with each new release, to collect and safeguard the next collection of set-ups. I'm sure the GTV members would agree, too.
Cheers,

MasterGT

@Kerr I still check in from time to time. Especially when I get a message saying "someone comment on setup 3062". Smile
Luckily GTV has enough support. New setups are still being added which amazes me. I created a tune database version of Forza called Forzagarage and in less than a year we had almost 2000 members but only 100 setups or so. Then the site just died. I never see that happening here. You have a strong community and alot of people care about this site.

I agree to an extent about having permanent help. Me and 2 of my good friends were working hard on a new Forza website called Forzapros. We had alot of interest as well. Suddenly one day one of them quit. 2 days later the other one quit. Leaving me with a huge website to take on by myself. All I'm saying is that if you do seek help make sure they are not going to ditch you. I know how much work your going to have to put into updating GTV for GT5 and its not going to be an easy task.
